Part II: Svādhiṣṭhāna: The Sacral Chakra

As we continue our seven-part chakra series, we move upward to Svādhiṣṭhāna, the sacral chakra. The second chakra is the seat of creativity, emotional flow, and sensuality.

Meaning & Symbolism

Svā means “self” and adhiṣṭhāna means “seat or residence.” This chakra reflects our essence and represents our creative potential and our inherent need to find our dharma.

Element & Physical Connection

Located between the coccyx and sacrum, Svādhiṣṭhāna is linked to the water element and governs the reproductive system, hips, kidneys, and lower abdomen. It influences our ability to experience joy, intimacy, and emotional well-being.

Signs of Balance

  • Emotional stability and creativity
  • Passion and zest for life
  • Confidence to embrace change
  • Healthy, harmonious relationships

Signs of Imbalance

  • Overactivity may manifest as overindulgence, emotional volatility, or dependency
  • Underactivity may appear as creative blocks, apathy, or disconnection from intimacy

Practices to Balance the Sacral Chakra

  • Spend time near water
  • Create freely and without judgment
  • Journal and reflect honestly on your emotions
  • Prioritize play and pleasure
  • Explore fluid asanas such as Marjaryāsana–Bitilāsana (Cat–Cow) or Sufi Grind
  • Meditate with the mantra “Vam”

Affirmations for Svādhiṣṭhāna

1. Creative energy flows through me freely.

2. I nurture myself emotionally.

3. Inspiration is always flowing to me.

4. I invite joy and sensuality into my life.

5. I let go of past feelings that no longer serve me.

Closing Reflection

By awakening the flowing power of Svādhiṣṭhāna, or Sacral Chakra, we can step into becoming our most passionate, creative, and emotionally free selves.
